Welcome – and thank you for your interest in Arno Youth Whisperer Coaching! Valerie Arno is a CPC (certified professional coach), MP-ELI (Master Practitioner of Energy Leadership Index). An advocate, mentor, and champion of youth/young adults and their parent/guardians, and has helped hundreds of these get unstuck and move forward in life to thrive.
As a mom of perplexing teens (as well as being one herself), she knows from experience how you might be feeling in your circumstance. While raising her own children, words like frustrated, scared, hopeless, angry, powerless and concerned permeated her thoughts. All are normal thoughts and feelings when dealing with challenging emotions.
As a young person, Valerie had her fair share of struggles and challenges from being bullied to failing classes, a dabbling in experimentation with drugs & relationships as well as lots of back talk and defiance. She posed her family with many concerns and challenges of her own as she worked her way from troubled to content while walking the path of life.
Valerie married young and by the age of 21 had two children and volunteered as a youth leader at a local church. After 14 years of marriage, the family core was shaken as she and her husband went through a divorce. This was a life altering event in the lives of her two teenage children. They became defiant, angry and lashed out. Valerie was lost and without direction as to what to do; she prayed, cried, yelled, threatened, encouraged and even bribed her children in an attempt to heal their wounded hearts and hopefully keep them from increasing their rebellion – alas, nothing seemed to reach them. She kept wondering why her children weren’t responding to her in the way the young people at church did when she mentored them. She soon realized they weren’t responding the same because she was too close and emotionally connected to be objective. This is when the phrase “it takes a village” really resonated with her and she understood the need for outside help and perspective. She needed a process for nurturing and guiding these young people into their adulthood.
Valerie’s passion for working with youth gave her a new objective – serving the youth of her community through the struggles they face on a daily basis. She worked for eight years at a high school that grew from 800 to 2100 students during her tenure. During those years she co-developed a Peer-to-Peer mediation/conflict resolution program, implemented that program on the campus and successfully decreasing the on campus bullying that gave students an opportunity to learn some vital life-tools and skills – many of which she uses today in her coaching practice.
Valerie’s desire to do more for young people remains strong. She returned to school, completed her studies and became a certified professional life coach. She chose iPEC (Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching) because it is one of the highest rated schools in this field and is accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF). She completed her training in 2013, launched Arno Youth Whisperer Coaching and remains dedicated to working with youth and young adults and their families.
Valerie looks forward to working with your young adult, helping them through with life skills and tools they will take far into adulthood.
